What happens when unleveled coils are processed?

pressing and punching

Internal strains and coil defects affect the precise shaping of the die. Thereby the die can be damaged and/ or the quality of the final product suffers. Uneven strips may cause deadlock of a whole installation and thus produce considerable opportunity costs.

cutting and blanking:

Cutting processes usually unleash internal stresses which then result in observable deformations in the material. As a result, precise cutting and blanking is impeded. Most important, the blanks´ flatness is a crucial criterion for quality since blanks are usually worked in subsequent sheet metal forming.

roll forming:

In roll forming coils are shaped through a series of successive processes. Since roll forming is a rapid process, unevenness of coils diminishes process stability significantly. Deformations and stress in the coil prohibit precise shaping so that subsequent roll forming processes will suffer.
